The study includes a collaboration between the University of Manchester and the University of Sheffield which evaluated the use of AI-enabled multispectral imaging for presymptomatic detection of disease (LLS in OSR). The results showed that multispectral could be used to detect the disease during the biotrophic phases, by finding internal regions of interest where the pathogen evolution was occurring. It also evaluated the need for three-dimensional interpretation, to reduce variability. This piece of work led to the formation of FOTENIX limited, a multispectral camera supplier targeted at crop phenotyping.
