One of the first study to provide extensive data about gene expression in the clusters of spinal cord neurons in the dorsal spinal cord: 16 populations of excitatory interneurons, 9 clusters of Inhibitory interneurons in the medial spinal cord: 1 populations of excitatory interneurons, 4 groups of Inhibitory interneurons in the ventral spinal cord: 4 populations of excitatory interneurons, 5 groups of Inhibitory interneurons, 2 groups of cholinergic neurons, 2 group of mixed (excitatory and inhibitory) neurons
One of the two Ventral Cholinergic (VC1) group is putetively identified as the V0c interneurons, the other one (VC2) as the motonuerons
All clusters are ascribed to a previously defined class of spinal cord neurons, the auithors attempted to idendify the neurons activated during an intense motor task (rotarod) or following a painful sensory stimulus (formalin hindpaw injection)
